The growing demand for laser projectors in home entertainment and sectors such as education and live events is driving the growth of the global laser projection market. According to Maximize Market Research, the laser projection market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 18.5 per cent during the 2024–2030 period and is projected to reach US$ 35.03 billion by 2030. Growth is particularly strong in the APAC region, especially in countries like India, where the demand for digital cinema screens in households is rising. This trend began in the early 2020s, shortly after the COVID-19 outbreak, when theatres remained closed and people turned to home theatre setups. Initially, the high cost of these devices limited their reach, slowing widespread adoption. But with the advent of new technology and more global players entering the Indian market, competition has intensified, making devices like Ultra Short Throw projectors affordable even for the average consumer. This has led to a clear shift in the home entertainment segment, from traditional television sets to projectors.

One of the manufacturers leading this change is Formovie, the Mi ecosystem company jointly established by Appotronics Corporation and Xiaomi Technology. Distributed in India by Aytexcel Pvt Ltd, Formovie projectors have quickly gained a major share of India’s home projector market, thanks to their visual and sound capabilities, competitive pricing, and integrated technologies. The company’s quick success in India can also be attributed to making its devices widely available, even in remote areas, along with the highly positive reviews from first-time users, both crucial factors in today’s consumer tech landscape. For example, DHL’s 2024 ‘Online Purchasing Behaviour Report’ found that 98 percent of online shoppers are influenced by customer reviews. The survey, which included 12,000 shoppers across 24 countries, also showed that 95 per cent considered delivery options an important factor in their online purchases. The highly positive reviews for Formovie reflect these findings.

“It is not often that you come across a home entertainment product that changes how you watch films and shows. But after a month with the Formovie Theater Premium projector in my living room, I have gone from relying on my 55-inch OLED TV to not wanting to go back. The Formovie UST projector offers more than just a large screen; it brings the cinema home,” said one user.

In its UST projector range, Formovie offers Theater Premium, Formovie Theater and Cinema Edge, while its LCD projector lineup includes Page One and Episode One.

Consumers also highlight the 4K UHD resolution (3840 × 2160 pixels), which delivers sharp images, vibrant colours, and detailed visuals. Many also appreciate the Advanced Laser Phosphor Display® (ALPD) technology, which improves picture quality with richer detail. “Everything I see is layered and crisp, with details I hadn’t noticed before,” noted one user.

Others also shared similar thoughts. “The brightness is outstanding, and the built-in speakers produce sound that rivals standalone systems,” said another user.

They were referring to the twin speakers by Bowers & Wilkins incorporated in the premium ranges, offering 3D surround sound with deeper bass, comparable to a cinema hall. Support for Dolby Atmos and DTS further improves audio performance. For high-speed content, features like MEMC (Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation) ensure smooth, clear visuals even during rapid movement.

Many first-time buyers said the performance exceeded their expectations for the price. They also found the installation process smooth and easy, especially with Auto Keystone and Focus. “We were complete beginners in the home projector segment, but Formovie showed us how simple it is to start. Setting it up was quick and took only a few minutes,” said a Cinema Edge user, adding that the intuitive interface and compact, sleek design made the entire setup experience enjoyable and easy.
