Sparsh Sehgal’s Growth Vision: Scaling India’s Surveillance Technology Beyond Imports

New Delhi: As India looks to strengthen its domestic manufacturing capabilities, Sparsh CCTV is preparing for its next phase of growth by focusing on technology development, operational efficiency and global competitiveness.

Sparsh Sehgal, Chief Growth Officer of the company, believes that the future of India’s surveillance industry will depend not only on manufacturing capabilities but also on the ability to develop differentiated products and own the underlying technology.

In an interaction with Hello Entrepreneurs, Sehgal discussed her return from London to join the family business, the role of artificial intelligence in surveillance and the challenges of building a globally competitive Indian technology company.

Scaling a legacy business

At 25, Sehgal has taken on a leadership role in a company with more than 20 years of experience in surveillance technology.

After spending nine years in London across education and early-career roles, she returned to India to join the family business. Her professional experience includes investment banking, venture capital, corporate strategy and entrepreneurship.

She said her time in London helped her develop the skills needed to become a leader before joining the family business.

“London is where I built from the ground up. India is where I now want to grow,” Sehgal said.

One of her early priorities at Sparsh was to introduce a more structured performance assessment system, moving towards annual goals and measurable outcomes instead of largely opinion-based appraisals.

The new system allows employees to set goals at the beginning of the year and track their progress quarterly.

Building technology beyond the AI buzzword

For Sehgal, the company’s differentiation lies in its engineering capabilities rather than the popularity of terms such as AI and deep tech.

She said Sparsh has developed technologies across hardware, software and artificial intelligence within the surveillance ecosystem, including thermal imaging, automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), edge intelligence, video analytics and cyber-secure surveillance.

The company also owns both the hardware and software stack, with more than 50 intellectual properties, according to Sehgal.

“A lot of our ‘firsts’ were built before AI and deep tech became fashionable words. Take away the buzzwords and the engineering still remains,” she said.

She believes AI must become a scalable product that delivers genuine value rather than simply increasing computing capacity or server infrastructure.

Sehgal said India continues to depend on global supply chains for critical surveillance components such as system-on-chips, image sensors and memory.

However, she believes that self-reliance must extend beyond component manufacturing.

“Self-reliance cannot stop at components. It has to extend to product thinking, engineering and IP,” she said.

For Sparsh, the ambition is to build a larger business by scaling its existing technology capabilities rather than choosing between revenue growth and innovation.

Tech to global scale

Sehgal said the company has already invested in technology development through different business cycles, including periods when such investments were difficult.

The next phase, she believes, will focus on taking those capabilities to a larger market.

“The real test is to build a ₹5,000 crore company precisely because the technology deserves to scale,” she said.
